Hetao Xia is a pioneer of external fixation technology in China,an internationally renowned expert in external fixation and limb reconstruction.
He is the founder of Beijing Institute of Bone External Fixation Technology.He was the deputy group leader
of the External Fixation Group of the Chinese Medical Association Orthopedics Branch.Since the 1980s, he has focused on the clinical application and research of the external fixation.The ingenious integration of combinated external fixators and Ilizarov technique has created a platform for the development of external fixation in China and promoted its clinical application,research,and popularization.He has treated many difficult and complicated cases of orthopaedic diseases.The “controlled regeneration theory”with practical guiding significance is proposed by him,which promoted the development of Ilizarov technology.Integrating biomimetic concepts into external fixation technology,leading it towards the era of biomimetics.
He edited Practical and Theory of External Fixation and participated in the compilation of many
orthopaedic monographs.He has published more than 60 academic papers,some of which have won awards at the world authoritative academic conference(SICOT Orthopaedic World Congress).
