Dr. David Roye obtained his BA at the University of Oklahoma and his MD from Columbia University.  His residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University was followed by fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto.  He was director of the division of pediatric orthopedic surgery at Columbia from 1980 through 2020.  Clinical interests include pediatric spine surgery and the treatment of children with CP.  His research interests include spine deformity, cerebral palsy and HRQoL in children.  He has 130 peer reviewed publications, has presented hundreds of abstracts at major meetings and has continued to publish. He has been visiting professor at major institutions globally.  He is founder of the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center at Columbia, CEO of International Healthcare Leadership, Cofounder and CMO of JuniperMD.  He has received the Mentorship Award from the AACPDM and Humanitarian Awards from the AAOS and the Taub Foundation. 

His travel to China began in 1997 and he has continued working in China continuously since then, caring for Chinese children, teaching, lecturing.  His not-for-profit organization IHL has partnered with the Health Commission to provide healthcare management training and has obtained visiting fellowships in the USA for more than 100 Chinese physicians.  In February 2020 he moved to China, maintaining his emeritus position at Columbia, to work more closely with Chinese colleagues.  He currently resides in Guangzhou working there to provide clinical care for children with cerebral palsy and to encourage the formation of multidisciplinary, evidence based care of children with neuromotor developmental disabilities.  After the ending of pandemic travel restriction, he has resumed travel to Columbia University where he continues as PI on five granted projects.  In 2023 he was awarded the Guangdong Province Friendship Medal for his work as a clinician, teacher, mentor and researcher.
